Terence Crawford lays down the law on Errol Spence Jr rematch

Terence Crawford has given his stipulations regarding the taking place of a second fight with welterweight rival Errol Spence Jr.

Despite the consensus that Spence can no longer make 147 and be a force, Crawford says he needs to be contacted officially over any weight shift.

“Well, the contract states that either one or the other has got to notify in writing that he can no longer make the weight. If not, the fight will be at 147,” Crawford told Weighing In with Travis Hartman.

“The contract states that it has to happen at 147 since neither Errol nor I notified each other saying that we can’t make the weight,” he added.

Crawford is on board with another installment with Spence because their Pay Per View was a massive success. However, the terms of the deal have to be correct, as Crawford has several options open to him.

Being the Pound for Pound King puts a target on your back and elevates purses and kudos to another level. After beating Spence, Crawford was instantly linked to a fight with Canelo, which seldom happened pre-Spence.

Terence Crawford vs Errol Spence II

“Bud” can potentially sidestep Spence if they cannot agree on a deal that negates what they have in writing.

Moving to return to 154 might be the better option, though, for both men. Crawford could see a vacant title on the line once Jermell Charlo vacates the super welterweight belts.

The WBO is already going to Tim Tszyu. But the WBC, IBF, or WBA could look favorably upon the rematch and put a vacant strap up for grabs. The winner of Crawford vs Spence II could then defend it against the mandatory challenger with that organization.

It’s no secret that Crawford wants to win a third weight crown before sailing off into the sunset.

“Errol Spence is a great fighter, but there’s no comparison. When you compare Errol Spence to Terence Crawford, there’s no comparison,” said Crawford.

“I’m already going to the Hall of Fame. If we retire right now, he’s not going to the Hall of Fame.”

He concluded: “If you look at my fight with Errol Spence and how easy I defeated Errol Spence compared to all these guys that they were calling bums – that should tell them something right there.

“The guys you called bums have put up a better fight than your favorite fighter [Spence].”
