Deontay Wilder vs Brock Lesnar opens up as Saudi fight falls apart

Deontay Wilder has a solid sidestep to his boxing career after seeing a Saudi Arabian fight with Anthony Joshua collapse despite months of talks.

Wilder is set to miss out on a massive payday because Saudi investors want a doubleheader of Wilder vs Joshua and Tyson Fury vs Oleksandr Usyk.

Fury and Usyk failed to agree terms, leading to Wilder and Joshua’s teams scrambling to save the fight. So far, they have been unable to do so as AJ’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, begins looking at Las Vegas and England as alternative venues.

“The Bronze Bomber” has been out of action for almost a year, with no guarantees that Joshua will be next. Hearn stated his man is looking to fight in December and push the Wilder battle back to March or April.

This leaves Wilder in a tough spot, as World Bopxing News previously explained. That would leave the American knockout artist out of action for another seven months.

Co-manager Shelly Finkel certainly doesn’t want that and will explore other opportunities for Wilder this year.

One of those would undoubtedly be Lesnar. Wilder has expressed interest in facing the former WWE and UFC heavyweight champion.

Deontay Wilder vs Brock Lesnar

“I’ll go straight with Brock Lesnar,” Wilder told TMZ about a potential fight.

“He’s just size, man. Size doesn’t mean anything. Not all the time. It does take a little bit of skill. It does take a little bit of will and a little bit of heart. But it takes a little determination, and all that’s a recipe.”

He added: “So, I think Brock Lesnar will be way too muscular. So, when you muscular like that, you knock off your flexibility.”

Should Wilder be able to snag Lesnar, he would generate far more interest than rival Tyson Fury has with his effort against Francis Ngannou.

The Ngannou clash was a surprise when Fury had previously stated his intentions to challenge Lesnar during a stint with WWE.

“I fancy a fight with Brock, for sure,” Fury said in an ill-fated interview with True Geordie. “I watched a few of his fights. [He’s] pretty handy, but I can flatten him.

“In a WWE match or a proper fight, I can flatten Brock Lesnar in thirty seconds.”

According to several reports, that’s a far cry from what happened in the hallways of a WWE event. Lesnar apparently asked Fury “what he was looking at?”

Fury responded with an offer to negotiate an encounter. However, it was far more muted than his rant on the Geordie podcast.

Deontay Wilder vs Brock Lesnar in boxing or MMA would capture the imagination of the fans in a heartbeat.
