Terence Crawford’s coach, Brian McIntyre, faces over a month in custody after being found with a gun at Manchester Airport.

Following a police search ahead of his departure from the UK, authorities discovered the illegal weapon.

After being interviewed by police, McIntryre was charged with possessing a firearm and ammunition for that firearm without a certificate.

Terence Crawford trainer arrested for UK gun possession

Releasing a statement, Manchester Police said: “At around 10:45 am on Sunday, 3 September 2023, officers were called to reports of a possible firearm being found in hold luggage by airport staff at Manchester Airport.

“After initial inspection by security staff, Greater Manchester Police officers attended. The firearm was then seized.

“Subsequently, a 53-year-old man [Bomac] was arrested for possessing a firearm. He was taken into custody for further questioning.

“Brian McIntyre, from the United States of America, was charged with possessing a firearm. He was also charged with possessing ammunition for a firearm without a certificate.”

The American appeared in front of Stockport Magistrates on Monday morning. After his hearing, McIntyre was remanded into custody, pending an appearance at Manchester Crown Court next month.

This means McIntyre will be unable to go home until proceedings are concluded. He will remain in jail until that time.

Remanded in custody

“He is next due to appear at Manchester Crown Court on Monday, 9 October 2023,” added those who oversaw the arrest.

McIntyre had been due to fly to Atalanta on Sunday morning. However, UK Border Force pulled McIntyre to one side after a baggage scan at security.

A weapon lit the warning signs as his bag went through the screening. Accompanying the gun was a magazine with ammunition.

In a nutshell, McIntryre was apprehended in a UK airport with a potentially loaded weapon. Armed police were forced to move in and arrest McIntyre at the departure lounge.

The shocking events occurred just hours after McIntyre coached Chris Eubank Jr. to a superb victory over Liam Smith.

Eubank dominated Smith on the watch of McIntyre only weeks after guiding Terence Crawford to the Pound for Pound number one spot.

McIntyre should have been celebrating a great summer. Instead, he will spend the next few weeks in a UK jail awaiting his fate.

The minimum sentence for anyone found with a gun [and ammo] is usually five years.

In addition, UK Police states: “You need a firearms certificate issued by the police to possess, buy, or acquire a firearm or shotgun.

“You must also have a certificate to buy ammunition. It is an offense to have a firearm, a shotgun, and certain ammunition without a certificate or a prohibited weapon.”
