‘Terence Crawford vs Charlo at 154, then Canelo – a $100m play!’

Terence Crawford has a clear pathway to the ultimate boxing legacy in just two fights after defeating Errol Spence Jr. convincingly in Las Vegas.

That’s the view of former WBC welterweight champion Andre Berto, who attended the fight at the T-Mobile Arena on Saturday night.

Berto announced his potential plan for Crawford’s immortality: “So who does Crawford fight next?

“I say Jermell Charlo for the 154lbs undisputed [titles]. After that, Canelo! Then [good] bye to boxing. That’s a 100 million-dollar play,” said the ex-titleholder.

After receiving backchat from fans on Threads about Canelo vs Crawford, Berto retorted by stating his blueprint was foolproof.

Terence Crawford vs Canelo touted

“People saying that Crawford is way too small for Canelo don’t know s*** about boxing. They said the same about Floyd vs Canelo.

“[You have to] Understand [that] Canelo isn’t a huge guy. He’s small for 168,” insisted Berto. “Crawford is taller, [has a] longer reach, and has room to fill out.

“Skills pay the bills, though.”

Crawford must find a way around a contracted rematch with Spence if Berto’s double deal is to even get to first base.

Will Crawford and Spence have a rematch?

After dominating Spence, Crawford didn’t mention any second fight.

“Errol Spence is a tremendous talent. He’s got a great jab,” said Crawford. “We were worried about the jab coming in because that’s how he sets up all his shots.

“Our main focus was the jab. You take away his best attribute. The rest is history.

“It means everything because of who I took the belts from. They talked badly about me. They said I wasn’t good enough and couldn’t beat these welterweights.

“I just kept my head to the sky. I kept praying to God that I would get the opportunity to show the world how great Terence Crawford is. Tonight, I believe I showed how great I am.”

On nullifying Spence’s work, Crawford added: “We practice that. Normally in camp, we do a flick and jab. But we knew that wouldn’t work with Errol Spence because he’s durable and strong.

“So we had to practice a strong, firm jab. The jab hit him and stopped him in his tracks.”

Crawford concluded on his future: “As I said before, I only dreamed of being a world champion. I’m an overachiever.

“Nobody believed in me when I was coming up, but I made everybody a believer. I want to thank Spence and his team. Without him, none of this would have been possible.”
