John Fury brands son’s next opponent ‘an embarrassing disgrace’

John Fury is unhappy with the man his son Tyson Fury will step into the ring with on October 28 following a public workout.

As World Boxing News previously reported, comments after Ngannou showed off his boxing skills backed his trainer, Mike Tyson, to have a better chance against Fury.

The pair meet on October 28 in a fight Top Rank is trying to sell as two big punchers going to war. The reality is Fury is going to box rings around Ngannou and probably put him to sleep in the end.

As with Bob Arum, selling those all-important pay-per-view buys can sometimes cloud a promoter’s judgment. However, John Fury is not mincing his words on the former UFC champion.

“Just seen Francis Ngannou and Mike Tyson and that so-called trainer what’s got the pads on. I saw the open workout. I hope he’s kidding along, and he’s playing possum here,” Fury stated.

“I hope that’s a joke and intended to be a laugh. Because if it’s not, he hasn’t got a prayer [against Tyson]. He hasn’t got a cat in hell’s chance.

“He won’t get out of the first round. It’s probably going to be Tyson’s quickest knockout.”

John Fury on Fury vs Ngannou

Backtracking a little, Fury added: “But you know what? It’s got to be kidology, that. It’s got to be full-on games.

“Because if that’s what he’s got – well, God help him, he’ll get smashed to bits. That’s all I’m saying. That’s embarrassing.

“If that’s what he can do on a public workout, don’t bother doing a public workout. It’s a disgrace.”

Arum’s comments on Fury vs Ngannou are expected from someone selling an event. But with his years of experience, the Hall of Famer should know better than trying to hoodwink the fans.

“This is a massive event worldwide, but it’s particularly massive in the United States,” said Arum. “MMA has become one of the most popular sports there, and Francis Ngannou is a legend in that sport.

“Tyson has performed so admirably in the United States over the past few years that he is a massive figure in sports.

“The fact that they’re both coming together is something that is creating tremendous interest in the United States.”

‘Tremendous interest’ – maybe, but safe in the knowledge that a boxing match between the pair will be more one-sided than Floyd Mayweather vs Conor McGregor.

Ngannou is in it for the payday, plain and simple. Fury will toy with him and take him apart before stopping the fight if he chooses to do so.
