Calls to strip Tyson Fury get louder, “Boxing needs to move on!”

Tyson Fury should be stripped of the WBC heavyweight title for refusing to defend the title in the future, say fans and media after his latest admission.

Several posts on social media site Threads have called for the World Boxing Council to act. Some want ‘boxing to move on’ after Fury stated he has no intention of being involved.

All of his current goals don’t include anything to do with the sport. This also contains zero focus on facing Oleksandr Usyk, the fight the fans want, or improving his standing as champion through defenses.

In his own words, Fury said: “I’ve completed the game in the ring. It’s done. I’ve done everything there is to do and won every belt there is to win,” when speaking to The Daily Mail.

Therefore, holding the heavyweight crown – the most coveted prize in sport – has become a massive topic of debate due to Fury’s own admission.

Deontay Wilder, Anthony Joshua, and many others await in line as Fury holds up the strap with no intention of defending.

How can the WBC allow someone to hold a title when he believes there’s nothing left to win?

Tyson Fury should be stripped of the heavyweight title

Come December, Fury will have no defenses for a year and will be months away after his event with MMA fighter Francis Ngannou in October.

Fury is trying his best to promote the fight. However, some comments about the contest are negative about its competitiveness.

“The Gypsy King” is doing what he can to spark curiosity. He’s stated that Ngannou has the tools to hurt him when many believe the opposite.

“I’m absolutely honored to be fighting Francis. He’s going to be a very, very good fighting man,” says Fury.

You can see that he’s massive. He’s in shape. He’s going to be a real challenge. It’s something different for me.

“I’m used to boxing boxers and boxing the head off of somebody. But fighting an MMA guy who comes in with a different style will be different.”

He added: “I can’t wait for it. It’s going to be an absolutely fantastic event. I’m honored that I’m a part of it and that Francis is a part of it.

“I’ve got to take my hat off to Francis for his story, where he’s come from. The fight, the grind, the determination, and everything he’s put into it to get to where he is.

“I will give Francis the respect that he deserves as a warrior, as a man, and as a world champion. He’s a big man. He’s very strong and powerful.

“It’s in my interest to give it one hundred percent training in camp and bring in the best sparring possible for me.”

It will be interesting to see if all that’s true during the aftermath and when the dust clears.
