Mayweather vs McGregor: Conor McGregor faces losing fifty pounds in weight if reports of a rematch with Floyd Mayweather prove true.
The Irishman has been piling on weight since 2021. However, speculation was rife that McGregor weighed just over 200 pounds during the height of his rehab from a broken ankle.
Back then, many thought McGregor was in preparation to face a boxing YouTuber at the cruiserweight limit.
McGregor announced himself as ‘190lbs of granite’ on social media. This statement initially led to speculation the UFC star was planning to call out Canelo Alvarez.
YouTubers were the much more likely scenario.

However, those measures could be for nothing if McGregor gets forced to boil back down to 155lbs for Mayweather.
The last time the pair met, Mayweather stipulated McGregor could weigh no more than 154 pounds. He came in at a ready 153.
Mayweather scaled under 150 pounds but has put on timber in the five years since then. Therefore, the Money man could up the required limit to 155 or even 160 pounds.
When the pair traded blows in McGregor’s solitary boxing bout, the “Champ Champ” lost severely against a much more skilled technician. The same will happen, according to bookmakers crunching the numbers.
“The Notorious” is badly out of form due to three defeats in four since the Mayweather collision. In one, he got knocked out by Dustin Poirier before getting severely injured in their trilogy.
Donald Cerrone represents the only victory since 2017 for UFC’s once most outspoken man. That honor now goes to Paddy “The Baddy” Pimblett.
And while boxing vs. MMA sells and fans continue to pay for it, this won’t stop the likes of McGregor from trying to cash in.
Before Mayweather or Pacquiao became exhibition options, Canelo seemed to be on the radar for McGregor.
When McGregor piled on the pounds, Canelo was hell-bent on facing the winner of Junior Makabu vs. Thabiso Mchunu.
Trainer Eddy Reynoso had already asked permission to stage the fight on Cinco de Mayo in Las Vegas. McGregor then increased his calorie intake in case Canelo became available later in 2022.
As it turns out, Mayweather and Pacquiao are more viable than Canelo. The Mexican has to focus on getting his career back on track after losing Dmitry Bivol.
The rematch nobody wants
Mayweather vs McGregor becomes the rematch nobody wants. A reach of a contest that holds no merits based on the first fight.
Completely dominating and doing precisely what he wanted inside the ropes, Mayweather carried McGregor to the tenth round.
Nothing from the initial battle indicates any return match-up is needed. Cold hard cash is the only excuse; maybe the fact Floyd Mayweather is now a 45-year-old grandpa can add another selling point.
First, McGregor has to lose weight and give himself enough time to do so safely. That’s only if the rumors are true, which no one will know for sure about Mayweather vs McGregor 2 until Floyd himself confirms it.
Mayweather is back in action this September in Japan.
