Floyd Mayweather: I made ten times my Top Rank buyout in three fights

Floyd Mayweather revealed that he made ten times his Top Rank buyout when he left Bob Arum’s company.

The boxer, a legend recently inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame, made the startling admission during one of his acceptance speeches.

Working with Arum in a love-hate relationship, Mayweather never got the opportunities he craved. Therefore in 2006, he pushed for an early exit from his contract.

As fellow Hall of Famer Arum didn’t want to let Floyd go, Mayweather had to spend $750,000 of his own money to break the agreement.

“As of today, the worst thing I ever did in my career was to sign with Top Rank. One of my family members was money hungry and went behind my back. That’s the worst thing I ever did,” said Mayweather.

“The worst thing I did was a sign with Top Rank because I was destined to be big anyway. I was destined to be a superstar anyway.”

Mayweather has since revealed he made ten times that amount once he moved on. Subsequent Pay Per Views with Oscar De La Hoya, Ricky Hatton, and Juan Manuel Marquez followed.

Outlining how his bank balance improved, the 45-year-old added: “So now I’m going to talk about why I am TB [The Best Ever]. I am going to tell you.

“They had me in a contract that I didn’t want to be in. So I said I would buy myself out of my contract for seven hundred and fifty thousand.

“When I left those guys [at Top Rank], I made seven hundred and fifty million in just three fights.

“I will never let the sport of boxing f*** over me. They know who’s got the biggest head.

“I said well, I did seven hundred and fifty million in ten minuetes with Mayweather vs. [Manny] Pacquiao, so I hold that record too.

“We all know I am the highest-grossing fighter ever.”

After fifty fights, Mayweather walked away with all his faculties intact to the exhibition circuit. He still earns regular eight-figure paychecks from fights around the world.

Whether it’s against YouTubers, former sparring partners, or Japanese MMA fighters, Mayweather will take on anyone if the money is right.

Out of his three bouts, Mayweather has one knockout win and two no decisions.
