Defeat in the US would be catastrophic for Conor Benn’s career

Conor Benn faces a win-or-bust situation in the United States, with his career on the line if he loses against Rodolfo Orozco.

Any defeat will be catastrophic for Benn, given he’s failed two drug tests and can’t be licensed in his own country.

Fights against any name contenders that can push Benn onto UK Pay Per View will be gone if Orozco pulls off the upset.

Benn would then have to build his name again amid an ongoing battle with the British Boxing Board of Control.

Orozco, 32-3-3 with 24 KOs, steps into the breach at the Caribe Royale in Orlando to act as the co-main event to Richardson Hitchins vs Jose Zepeda.

The Mexican is a seasoned campaigner despite his youthful age of 24, having made his professional debut at just 16.

Standing 6ft 1in, hard-hitting Orozco won his last two fights with successive stoppages. This includes a fourth-round victory in Mexico City in June over compatriot Eilan Treja Juarez.

Conor Benn’s career is on the line

Discussing the potential upset, Orozco said: “This is precisely what I’ve been waiting for. This isn’t short notice because I’ve been preparing for this moment my entire life.

“You’ve made a mistake, Conor, and I’ll show you that this Saturday.”

He added: “I’ve been waiting and preparing for a fight like this for a long time. We’ve been waiting for a big fight like this in previous months. They have fallen through.

“So, I am entirely ready for this fight as I’ve always been preparing. We’re coming to win.

“Of course, it’s a massive opportunity for me. I am making my debut in this country, and we are coming to win.

In Saturday’s main event, Brooklyn’s unbeaten Super-Lightweight sensation Richardson Hitchins (16-0, 7 KOs) and former World title challenger Jose Zepeda collide for the WBC Silver, WBO NABO, and IBF North American Super-Lightweight titles.

Benn’s fellow Brit, Sandy Ryan, will bid to become the unified World Welterweight champion when she meets Chicago’s Jessica McCaskill (12-3 5 KOs) for the WBO, WBC, WBA, IBO, and Ring Magazine belts.

Elsewhere, Austin ‘Ammo’ Williams and Steve Rolls go head-to-head. The WBA International and IBF North American Middleweight hardware is on the line.

Khalil’ Big Steppa’ Coe fights fellow American Light-Heavyweight Kenmon Evans. The undefeated Cuban Super-Lightweight Orestes Velazquez squares off with Canada’s Mohamed’ The Black Buffalo’ Soumaoro.

Super-Welterweight Jeovanny Estella and Super-Flyweight Jasmine Artega taste action over eight rounds. Bantamweight Roberto Rivera Gomez kicks the whole night off over four rounds, with all three fighters to be matched imminently.
