Matchroom Boxing has been rocked again after another failed doping test from one of their fighters, this time an undisputed champion.

The World Boxing Council informed World Boxing News that four-belt women’s super featherweight ruler Alycia Baumgardner was flagged on a test.

Outlining what transpired, WBC chiefs: The WBC has received a notification of an adverse finding resulting from an anti-doping test conducted in a sample collected from WBC and undisputed super featherweight world champion Alycia Baumgardner.

“The sample collection that resulted in the adverse finding occurred in relation to the July 15, 2023, bout between champion Baumgardner and challenger Christina Linardatou.

The adverse finding in question arose from a sample collection and anti-doping test administered by Drug-Free Sport. It was not part of the WBC Clean Boxing Program.

“Accordingly, the WBC will initiate a notification, investigation, and results management procedures for WBC World Championship bouts consistent with the WBC Rules & Regulations.”

Matchroom rocked again

It’s the second high-profile failure for Matchroom in the past month. It follows heavyweight Dillian Whyte being thrown out of his rematch with Anthony Joshua.

Adding the Conor Benn fiasco into the mix, that’s three in the past year that concluded with investigations.

“In light of this news, the fight will be canceled. A full investigation will be conducted,” said Matchroom Boxing.

They added that news on what happens with Joshua’s return and the scheduled co-features “will follow.”

The Whyte saga promises to continue running after “The Body Snatcher” denied wrongdoing.

Denials

“I’m shocked and devastated to learn of a report by VADA of adverse findings relating to me. I only learned of it this morning and am still reacting to it,” said Whyte.

“I can confirm without a shadow of a doubt that I have not taken the reported substance. I’ve not taken it in this camp or at any point in my life. I’m completely innocent.

“I ask to be given the time to go through the process of proving this without anybody jumping to conclusions or a trial by the media.

“I insisted on 24/7 VADA testing for this fight. And I have done this voluntarily and at my own expense for all my fights for many years.

“This is not the first time I have been reported as having an adverse finding for a substance I have not taken. I will again prove I am completely innocent as I did last time.”

Baumgardner has also denied the allegations.
