Mike Tyson has a familiar story that’s been told many times in books, movies, and TV series. But now, Mike says it’s time to let it go.
Tyson doesn’t want his biography to be used any longer after releasing his “Undisputed Truth” and subsequently touring a show of the same name for years.
Mike Tyson blows a fuse
Despite most of the details already being in the public domain, Mike Tyson did not want Hulu to make a new miniseries.
Reportedly without his permission, they did it anyway. Tyson is livid about the situation.
“Hulu tried to desperately pay my brother Dana White millions without offering me a dollar to promote their slave master takeover story about my life.
“He turned it down because he honors friendship and treating people with dignity.
I’ll never forget what he did for me just like I’ll never forget what Hulu stole from me,” said Tyson.
Hulu “stole” Mike Tyson’s rights
He added: “Hulu’s model of stealing life rights of celebrities is egregiously greedy,” before stating: “Hulu stole my story.
“They’re Goliath, and I’m David. Heads will roll for this.
“Someone should get fired from Hulu. Producers lied to my friends, saying I supported the unauthorized series about my life.”
That final statement directly responded to WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman, stating the World Boxing Council was duped into supplying belts for the show.
“A fighter who was like a son to my father is Mike Tyson. “I just spoke to him.
“I’m so upset to learn that his upcoming series was produced without his involvement and consent. Hulu misled the WBC.
“We provided belts for production. Mike Tyson is a legend. Respect.”
Steven Rogers, the creator of the show, hopes Tyson will watch and change his mind despite the former champion’s disgust.
Rogers also stated that Tyson had no claims to any of the personal experiences depicted.
“We actually couldn’t talk to him because his life rights were already taken, so that was never on the table,” Rogers told The Wrap. “I would hope that if he watches it, he will change his opinion.”
He added: “For me, as a writer, as a storyteller, I don’t really like to be reliant on just one source. I really like to do the research and get all these different opinions and then put a story around all of that.
“I don’t like to be beholden to just one person.”
That would be Mike Tyson, in this case.
Through his team of representatives, Tyson released an official quote on the series following the social media blowout.
“My life rights option expired years ago,” Tyson said. “Hulu nor any of their supercilious team ever tried to engage in any negotiations with this black man.
“They say this story is an exploration of a black man. It’s more like an exploitation of a black man.
“Hulu thinks their tracks are covered by hiring black sacrificial lambs to play the part as front men for their backdoor robbery.
“I will always remember this blatant disregard of my dignity.”
Strong words from Tyson, who has so far been unable to shut Hulu’s series down.
