Joey Dawejko, who reportedly knocked Anthony Joshua down in sparring for the Andy Ruiz Jr. fight, will return on September 1st.

The veteran heavyweight fighter, 21-10-4 with 12 KOs, fights out of Philadelphia, PA. Dawejko will triumphantly return to the ring when he steps through the ropes at Parx Casino in an eight-round bout against Mike Marshall (6-3-1, 4 KOs).

His opponent fights out of Danbury, CT.

Dawejko, for training purposes, was used by Joshua as a sparring partner when he held the WBO/WBA/IBF world heavyweight titles.

WBN first reported news from camp passed on by an anonymous source who has remained that way ever since. Joshua was put down badly by Dawjeko, according to the information received.

Joshua didn’t look like himself when he then stepped into the ring for Ruiz. Nervously chewing on his gumshield, AJ went down in six rounds.

The man responsible was sworn to silence and would never divulge what actually happened.

Speaking to several outlets, Dawejko would not discuss what transpired. He kept the fighters’ code. His reward was a short-term deal with Matchroom Boxing.

Unfortunately for Dawjeko, he lost to Sergey Kuzmin via majority decision and never fought for the company again.

Talking to WBN in 2021, Dawejko addressed Joshua losing to Ruiz and his future standing in the sport.

“I think Tyson Fury is too elusive and too awkward. I believe he will win a unanimous decision against Anthony Joshua,” Dawejko exclusively told World Boxing News.

“Before their fight, I knew Andy Ruiz’s style would trouble him. I couldn’t believe it happened like that and that fast, though.

“Joshua has a solid Resume. He could be in the (all-time) top ten. But then again, how would he of done in the ’90s and the early 2000s heavyweights? It’s a tough call.”

Dawejko continues to challenge himself in boxing while owning his own roofing company.

“There is no other better way to start your Labor Day weekend than with some great boxing at such a great venue as Parx Casino,” said Joe Hand, Jr. about our upcoming fight card.

Undercard

In a four-round middleweight bout, Soslan Alborov (0-1) out of Philadelphia, PA, will take on Brendan O’Callaghan (2-1, 1 KO), also from Philadelphia, PA.

Daiyaan Butt (10-2, 5 KOs) out of Philadelphia, PA, will return in a six-round super lightweight bout.

2014 Pennsylvania Golden Gloves Champion Karl Wylie (1-0) out of Coatesville, PA, will return to the ring in a four-round lightweight contest.
