The Mexican has fought his last two early May outings at the T-Mobile Arena, three in total on the date in Las Vegas alone, and many fans have already planned their trips to Nevada for a rematch with Gennady Golovkin.
Golden Boy, K2 Promotions and HBO, with a little help from the world’s biggest movie star – The Rock, made the announcement on Monday but were interestingly missing the official site.
The Rock, or Dwayne Johnson as he’s known since his WWE days, was asked by HBO to make the fight official and did it in true ‘Brahma Bull’ selfie-style from his gym and predicted ‘this time there’ll be no draw’.
We knew this day would come when two of the best in their field, possibly ever, met face to face and delivered an epic performance that didn’t have a resolution. I’m honored and fired up to announce this rematch…@HBO @canelo @gggboxing #CaneloGGG2 #ItAintGonnaBeAnotherDraw pic.twitter.com/fYCoiqxacB

Golovkin was thought to have done enough to win back in September only to see victory snatched away by a three-way split draw. The upside is fans will get to see a superb fight all over again.
The new 20,000 capacity T-Mobile Arena hosted the first contest and seems a perfect fit for a May 5th return to please the thousands of Mexican fans who will be in the boxing capital anyway.
NYC has reportedly offered more money to stage the HBO PPV encounter despite the logistics not being ideal and everybody knows there’s nothing like a Las Vegas fight week to get the blood pumping.
Hopefully, sense wins the day and everyone can look forward to GGG v Canelo 2 going down on the fames Vegas strip in just over three months time!
