Farrell was down numerous times in the contest and should have been pulled from the fight in the second round on the back of what were two sickening knockdowns.
As the bout dragged on and Farrell struggled with the power of his opponent, referee Steve Gray missed a couple of guilt-edged occasions to save the Merseysider from further punishment.
It was clear there was no way for Farrell to fend off the attacks coming from Davies and during the sixth round the 27 year-old was blinking uncontrollably before Gray finally stepped in.
Fears for the well-being of Farrell came from fans a pros alike on social media, although the fighter himself updated on his situation after undergoing hospital checks.
“Just got home from a routine check at hospital. Can’t thank everyone enough for the messages of support, it means a lot. I will be back,” said Farrell.
“Tough pill to swallow today but overwhelmed by the support I have received from start to finish.
“To a packed Echo Arena to hundreds of messages and people’s positive comments. Can’t thank you all enough.
“I’m absolutely fine, better man beat me on the night, that’s boxing, will take a little rest and be back where I belong,” he added a short time later.
Losing to Davies is certainly not the end of the road for the obviously talented Farrell who battled hard in the third and fourth rounds to try to gain a foothold.
Those two hard falls early on though, should have been enough to let him fight another day, instead of taking further solid blows which ultimately could affect his longevity moving forward.
In a reply to WBN, promoter Eddie Hearn and ex-boxer turned coach Paul Edwards stated they were both unconcerned by Farrell’s blinking as it was nothing unusual in his case.
