Fury had been under the jurisdiction of VADA (The Voluntary Anti-Doping Agency) for his scheduled rematch with Wladimir Klitschko on October 29 but pulled out of the fight for the second time last Friday.
A test performed just a day before (Sept 22) Fury made the announcement to cancel the fight and take a break due to ‘mental issues’ – came back with the Class A drug present, which represents a new low for the Briton.
A letter by VADA president Dr. Margaret Goodman sent to Fury and published by ESPN said the following: “This letter is to advise you that the ‘A’ sample urine specimen number 4006253 collected from Tyson Fury on September 22, 2016 in Lancaster, England through his participation in the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association (VADA) program has been analyzed for anabolic agents, diuretics, beta-2 agonists, stimulants and drugs of abuse. The results of the analysis are as follows: Adverse. Urine specimen contains benzoylecgonine (cocaine).
“Mr. Fury has the right to promptly request analysis of the ‘B’ sample at his expense.”
With his career in further tatters, Fury is set to be stripped of his titles for the drug abuse alone after leaving the WBA, WBO and IBO with no choice on the matter.
The 27 year-old had always stated he may retire if he landed a big payday against Klitschko and was able to claim victory, although Fury may not have any choice in the matter unless he cleans up his act in the future.
A positive test was also taken from Fury in 2015 and is still under investigation by the UK Anti-Doping Agency and could now result in a lengthy ban for the exiled champion.
