The 26 year-old scored a lopsided victory over the Frenchman to secure a mandatory shot at WBC title holder Anthony Dirrell, but the Londoner was more interested in a third fight with British nemesis Carl Froch – who was ringside to witness his triumph.
“It was amazing to be back boxing and back winning,” Groves wrote on his SportLobster account.
“After the win, I looked into Froch’s eyes and he looked back into mine from ringside. I’ve got a bright future ahead of me and if Carl Froch wants to carry on boxing, I’m happy, willing, ready and able to knock Froch out. And I will.”
They are tough words from a man who was twice knocked out by ‘The Cobra’ before his comeback win over Rebrasse, as Groves attempts to put himself back in with a chance of mixing it with the best in the world.
Old rival James DeGale is currently ahead of Groves in the queue to face Froch as ‘Chunky’ currently holds the number one spot with the IBF, although it is uncertain at this point whether another all-UK world title bout is on the cards.
Veteran Froch may decide to give up the IBF belt, rather than defend it against DeGale, as the Nottingham puncher eyes one last hurray across the Atlantic before hanging up his gloves on the back of a stellar career.
Groves facing DeGale in a rematch of their entertaining 2011 encounter for the vacant IBF strap might be a more likely scenario at this point in time, but there will still be some talking to be done before all is worked out between the British trio.
