The 36-year-old, who is undefeated in 45 contests of a stellar career, is due to fight in May and September of this year before repeating the feat next year and hanging up his gloves for good.
Mayweather is currently visiting South Africa as the five-weight world champion builds up to his next fight announcement, which many believe will be confirmed against British fighter Amir Khan on May 3 in Las Vegas.
According to the Associated Press, Mayweather told revelers at a gala dinner on Friday that “September 2015 will be his last fight” after amassing arguably the best record of any boxer before him – on beating champions alone.
If ‘Money’ is true to his word, a proposed fight with Khan will represent one-quarter of his time left in the ring and would mean only three windows of opportunity remain for a much sort after clashing with old rival Manny Pacquiao.
This latest news of his plans would also mean Mayweather can only equal the stand-out C.V of the late, great Rocky Marciano and may see the TMT boss ending his time in the ring one short of 50 wins without a defeat.
With the money Mayweather can generate in a single fight alone, it would remain to be seen whether the American can stay true to his word and avoid the temptation of a return.
