Tearful Groves and ex-trainer Booth embrace after failed title attempt

The clearly upset 25 year-old, who was halted in nine rounds of a highly-entertaining bout with Froch at the Phones 4U Arena, met backstage with Booth in the immediate aftermath of the contest as he was consoled by his former mentor.

There had been circling rumours pre-fight that Booth was to make a planned appearance with Groves as he entered the ring to face Froch, although that wasn’t the case and there was no long-winded ploy involved.

Groves and Booth publicly split just weeks prior to the Londoner’s defining night against ‘The Cobra’ and on witnessing the two chatting, they could be set to reconcile after getting together for the first time since they parted company.

With his reputation restored and public perception as a fighter enhanced, Groves can look forward to a brighter 2014 and could possibly have his ‘Dark Lord’ back in the corner when he returns next year.

Former Booth assistant Paddy Fitzpatrick took the role for the Froch fight and was almost part of a famous win as Groves controlled a large portion of the first half of the super-middleweight encounter.

Ultimately, Froch came on strong as the Nottingham man always does, but Booth can have immense pride in his protégé as Groves proved his class in the ring after some unsavoury words out of it.

Watch this space where those two are concerned.
