Martin Murray vs Garth Wood confirmed for December 11 in Sydney

The 30 year-old former British title holder last fought in April in a brave attempt to dethrone pound for pound middleweight king Sergio Martinez on his home patch in Argentina – with some even believing that Murray did enough to get the decision.

After months of being linked to a clash with full WBA belt holder Gennady Golovkin even despite US Visa problems, Murray has now secured entry down under to battle Wood in what looks to be a stay-busy fight against the Aussie veteran.

Wood, who holds an avenged win over Shane Mosley’s latest foe Anthony Mundine from 2010, is currently the WBA Pan African champion which gives him the sufficient ranking to challenge the highly-ranked Murray’s current position with the World Boxing Association.

A win for Murray would possibly re-open the gates to a high-profile fight on UK soil against new IBF king Darren Barker in 2014, although Londoner Barker first has to get through his mandatory fight with Felix Sturm in Germany at the end of this year before any domestic bout could begin talks.
