Upon Pacquiao being asked the obvious question of whether he wants to fight Mayweather by First Take’s Skip Bayless, the Filipino Congressman was bullish in his response before making derogatory comments on Floyd’s fighting style.
“For me I’m willing to fight because that’s what the fans want to see. If he wants to fight it will,” Pacquiao told the ESPN team. “His style and my style if you look at it, he has an advantage because he always keeps running and not fighting.”
Former WBA lightweight champion Rios, who faces Pacquiao on November 24 in Macau, China, then begged to differ with the multi-weight title holder by stating: “When was the last time you see Floyd ran? With Guerrero he stayed on the pocket. With Ortiz, he didn’t run, he stayed in the pocket. When Cotto came in, he didn’t run.”
Mayweather and Pacquiao have long been pushed together for a mega-money clash and were close to fighting firstly in 2010, and then 2011 – although one thing or another stopped the fight from happening.
As Pacquiao has now suffered two high-profile defeats to Timothy Bradley and Juan Manuel Marquez, many believe the contest is now closer than ever to becoming a reality, although ‘Bam Bam’ Rios will certainly have something to say about that come November time.
