Even at just 33, it seems that Johnson has been around at the top of the division for a lot longer after amassing a 29-3 record with 14 stoppages since his pro debut a decade ago.
The ‘Kingpin’ recently lost a points decision to the undefeated Tyson Fury in Belfast, before hitting the road again to get back to winning ways last time out against Solomon Haumono in Melbourne, Australia.
Johnson is now looking to strike a return deal with Fury, possibly in the US, after the former Irish champion declared him ‘the best heavyweight in America’ in a recent spat with compatriot Deontay Wilder.
Wilder, who is 28-0 with going past four rounds, is another possible target for Johnson as he explained to WBN last week, although the opportunity to avenge one of his losses would come higher up on his hitlist.
“I look forward to fighting Fury again,” Johnson told World Boxing News.
“This time I’ll have proper time to train and spar so I can chop him down and we can give the world a real show.”
Some suggestions that the returing Audley Harrison could be a possible next opponent for Johnson had been quickly squashed though after Wilder apparently ended his career in 70 seconds before a change of heart.
“Audley Harrison needs to leave the game alone it’s pretty much done for him,” said Johnson. “I’m not going nowhere near him even with my loses.
“I am planning to clean up the division that once was the greatest division in boxing history. I just want that IBF Title and I will get it,” he added.
