WBC: Amir Khan’s removal from #2 at 147 was a mistake that will be corrected

WBN then contacted the World Boxing Council in an attempt to understand why this had been the case and have been assured that a simple error on their part had been behind the move.

“The WBC made an unfortunate mistake in the ranking of Amir Khan, who was #2 in the welterweight division and was place in the super-lightweight division by mistake.

“The WBC received confirmation from Amir Khan’s camp that he will campaign at welterweight and next month the mistake will be corrected,” WBC spokesman Mauricio Sulaiman confirmed to World Boxing News.

Khan, 26, has earmarked a date of December 7 for his debut at the weight, with opponents currently being sounded by the Bolton man’s team. A decision on the US return could be made as early as next week to allow the former world title holder to prepare for his upcoming wedding in the summer.
