Peter Fury: Tyson v Pulev ongoing, Haye injury irrelevant

Fury’s trainer and uncle Peter though has been swift to tell WBN this week that Sunday night’s hand ligament injury suffered by Haye will not be the catalyst for making the fight sooner, rather than later.

“What’s going on with Haye has nothing to do with Tyson as we still have a fight with (Kubrat) Pulev ongoing,” Fury told World Boxing News.

“Anything on that side is being dealt with by Mick Hennessy,” he added.

The surprising news of Haye’s pullout on Tuesday was instantly greeted with speculation that the door will be open for Fury to step in an make a big-money UK encounter, although Adam Booth has previously confirmed that original foe Manuel Charr will be next for the ‘Hayemaker’ whatever happens.

That leaves Fury and Pulev to negotiate their pending EBU title and IBF eliminator for the immediate future and may see Haye come into play sometime at the end of the year – if both get through their respective tests unscathed.

There is no doubt that a Haye v Fury battle has all the ingredients to make a huge statement in the heavyweight division, although as we all know with the Price v Fury fight, there is a long way to go until the two actually share a ring.
