Heavyweight Dave Allen brushes off fan fears over Frazer Clarke

Former UK Pay Per View star Dave Allen is not on board with the fact some fans believe he is in danger against UK heavyweight rival Frazer Clarke.

World Boxing News reported that some British boxing fans on social media and YouTube fear for Allen’s safety against Clarke.

The worry stems from a total beating Allen took at the hands of David Price on his last high-profile Sky Sports appearance.

In a fight that was awful to watch, Price battered Allen from pillar to post, with the Doncaster man needing oxygen to recover after the loss.

Allen fought once more after a long delay retiring on either side on two occasions. He eventually returned and is on a low-profile run of three victories in two years.

The lack of action isn’t the bone of contention for some. It’s the sheer fact Allen was so humbled by Price, who never really made it to an elite level in the heavyweight ranks.

Heavyweight test

Some see Clarke doing a similar or worse job on Allen, who raised eyebrows when Sky announced him for the Liam Smith vs Chris Eubank Jr. rematch undercard.

The man himself, known as “The White Rhino” or “Papi PPV,” sees it very differently.

“I am the underdog with the bookies. I’m probably with everyone. But in my eyes, I am a big favorite,” Allen told Sky Sports. “I am the underdog to many people, but, to me, I fully expect to win.”

Admitting he didn’t think the nod would come for a Sky comeback, Allen added: “I didn’t think I would get the call for this fight to be honest, so I expect to win.

“Frazer is an old friend of mine. I have known him since 2012 from the amateurs. We have always got on great.

“I respect him massively as a man and a good fighter. You don’t win Olympic medals if you are not a good fighter, but I would say this is a big mistake.”

Reiterating his stance and denying any build-up talk, Allen concluded: “I genuinely, really, really fancy the job. If I didn’t, I wouldn’t be doing it.

“I just think I am better all around. People might laugh at that, but I expect to outbox him. I expect to knock him out, to be honest.

“I’m not just saying that. I haven’t got to talk anything up.

“For once, I can come in quietly and go about my business. But I fully expect to beat him.”
