Oscar De La Hoya signs up for DAZN to watch ‘real heavyweight champion’

Oscar De La Hoya revealed what may well have been a tongue-in-cheek problem on Saturday night before sitting back and enjoying the Anthony Joshua fight on DAZN.

The Golden Boy boss, who promoted Canelo v GGG 2 the week before, stated he had DAZN viewing issues for Joshua v Povetkin.

Within seconds, DAZN responded to De La Hoya before the boxing legend was able to enjoy the action.

Joshua went on to stop Alexander Povetkin in seven rounds of an entertaining fight on what was the maiden event covered on DAZN.

De La Hoya, possibly in a diss to former heavyweight Deontay Wilder, then labelled Joshua ‘the real heavyweight champion’.

Eddie Hearn, Anthony Joshua’s handler, said the stream De La Hoya initially question was flawless, as far as he was concerned.

“I heard it went very well…We know the platform won’t be built in one event, but it just delivered the biggest star in world of boxing.

“This will be a 2-3 year project to make it the home of boxing. The feedback I’m getting from the U.S. side in terms of the broadcast was top draw.”
