The PBC bout was halted early amidst confusion in Colon’s corner as they removed the fighter’s gloves one round too soon.
Referee Joseph Cooper eventually disqualified colon, but things soon took a somber turn in the Puerto Rican dressing room.
The 23-year-old suffered dizzy spells, vomiting, and even fainted backstage and was immediately rushed to the hospital, where he was diagnosed with bleeding on his brain.
Emergency surgery took place, and Colon is currently in a coma as the Inova Fairfax hospital monitors his life-threatening situation.
PRICHARD COLON UPDATE
An update was released on Colon’s official social media account that outlined the injury was situated on his brain’s left side.
“I know you’re worried about the health of Prichard. I just spoke with his mother, and he is in recovery after bleeding on the left side of his brain. We will keep you informed of any developments by this means. His family is going through a difficult time and may not respond to the media. They’ll keep you informed.
“We ask prayer for the speedy recovery of Prichard.”
