Benavidez stops Paez late; Orozco defeats Taylor; McCumby KO

The 23 year-old successfully defended his interim WBA super lightweight title for the first time by dropping Paez in the third and twelfth rounds before referee Raul Caiz Jr stepped in to halt the fight with the final bell in sight.

Paez, 27, was clearly out of his depth against the more polished Benavidez and now has six losses on his record from his 46-bout career. Benavidez can now boast a 23-0 C.V following a 16th early finish.

In the co-feature, Antonio Orozco came out on top against Emanuel Taylor after the pair shared an entertaining ten round battle. The super lightweight contender was given a 98-92 and 96-94 twice victory on the scorecards and is now 22-0 as a pro.

Glendale youngster Trevor McCumby remained undefeated as the 22 year-old knockout out Marcos ‘Ratinho’ Oliveira in the third round. The win pushed McCumby to 19-0 with what was the talented up and comer’s 15th stoppage.

Earlier, featherweight Carlos Castro, welterweight Abel Ramos and super featherweight Francisco De Vaca all recorded wins, whilst headliner Jose’s brother David Benavidez stopped Ricardo Campillo in two rounds,
