Charismatic welterweight Jerome ‘Wipeout’ Wilson is currently recieving treatment in hospital following a sixth round knockout defeat to Serge Ambomo on Friday night in Sheffield.
The 29 year-old, who burst onto the scene with a highlight reel KO win over Harry Janes in 2010, has endured a chequered career since then and lost to Ambomo on points back in May. In the return, Wilson took some heavy shots and was down in round two, before shipping more in the sixth and eventually going down heavily.
Wilson was treated almost immediately as those at ringside saw the emergency at hand, and promoter David Coldwell has now confirmed that his fighter’s condition is serious.
“It is with deep regret that I have to make the following statement,” said Coldwell.
“Jerome Wilson unfortunately suffered a severe head injury during his fight in Sheffield last night. He is receiving the best possible care and while he receives treatment Jerome’s family request privacy at this difficult time.
“Further updates will be released when Jerome’s family feel it appropriate to do so therefore no further comment will be made until directed by Jerome’s family.”
