Sergio Martinez has laughed off any suggestion that he could be knocked out when the Argentinian opposes Miguel Cotto on Saturday night as the pair clash at the world famous Madison Square Garden.
The 39 year-old puts his WBC 160lb title on the line in a grudge match against the three-time world title holder, who is moving up to middleweight for the first time in his career.
Martinez was taking in the sites, along with conducting his media duties in New York this week ahead of the bout, and confidently predicted a knockout win against the smaller challenger.
“I love New York City. It is one of my favorite cities in the world. I am so excited to be here and fight at one of the most famous arenas in the entire world. This is a dream come true for me,” said Martinez.
“Camp was phenomenal. The gym was excellent and Miami was perfect. This is the best training camp that I have ever had in my entire career. I said it before and I am saying it again, there is no possible way that Cotto will make it out of the 9th round.”
On Freddie Roach predicting a KO victory for Cotto, ‘Maravilla’ added: “Freddie Roach is excellent at telling jokes and this is one of the best jokes he has ever told.”
Cotto, 33, does go into the fight as an underdog to prevail and capture his fourth weight world title, although with Martinez small at the weight, a closely-fought battle is expected this weekend.
