Exclusive: Russell Jr. eyes Selby unification or Lomachenko II

The talented American, who made a successful first defense of his green belt in April, is also looking into the possibility of a rematch Ukrainian Vasyl Lomachenko, who recently moved up successfully to claim a version of the super featherweight title.

As he celebrates 14 months with the coveted green and gold strap around his waist, Russell was asked how he reflected on his spell as world ruler, to which he replied: “It’s not really my job to reflect on things, I just have to keep moving forward and stay focused.

“It’s our season and we are in demand. All the talent is in our featherweight division and that’s where we are looking right now.

“I aim to be back in the ring around October or November and want to fight Lee Selby. I’m ready to unify and ideally, would fight any champion in the division.

“There’s also the option of a rematch with Lomachenko too when we move up, and of course, that’s a fight we want too.”

Asked whether he saw Lomanchenko’s two-weight title win over Rocky Martinez, Russell added: “I didn’t see the fight, but I did see the highlights of the knockdown and would like to share the ring with him again.”
