Benn, who fought two wars with Eubank’s father Chris Senior, like many, will be an avid viewer if Golovkin and Eubank trade blows in the autumn as both sides attempt to put the finishing touches to a WBC, WBA, IBF and IBO title clash.
Eubank is set to secure home advantage for the bout at the O2 Arena in London – but goes into the challenge of his life as a massive underdog to end Golovkin’s reign as the best 160 pounder on the planet.
Asked if facing GGG on British soil helps him in his quest, Benn was more than willing to give Eubank Jr. some advice on how to combat Golovkin’s marauding attacks, elusive style and ruthless combinations.
“I think there are two things that could happen when Eubank fights GGG. Chris could fight out of his skin and put in a great performance or Golovkin could make it the tall order it’s supposed to be,” Benn exclusively told World Boxing News.
“But can Eubank really do it? It’s a big but just because of the calibre of opponents Chris has been fighting. It’s nothing like GGG. None of them have been in the top 15 or 20 in the world and that’s a big problem for him.
“I’m not saying he can’t do it, but he has to try and prove it those who might say you did not have a chance against the G-man. If he starts thinking ‘But where do my other opponents rank?’ – before the fight, he could run into trouble.
“I believe Chris could beat GGG If hits and holds to break up his rhythm but he has to stop him from getting set to drop his big bombs. Even if he manages to do that, how long can he do that for – twelve rounds?
“Anyway, It’s big task for him but I wish him all the best,” he added.
