Joshua, 25, is set for his 14th pro outing on September 12th and Cornish is currently the frontrunner to be in the opposite corner as rumours continue that the British, Commonwealth or both titles could be on the line.
WBA number one contender Lucas Browne was recently informed that he must outline his intention to defend the belt to the CBC in the near future or risk being stripped, and once the Aussie drops the title, Joshua v Cornish would then have the blessing of the CBC.
“We’ve been in discussions with representatives of Browne and have stayed the decision to vacate temporarily,” Block exclusively told World Boxing News.
“We haven’t spoken to Eddie Hearn about the title, but have spoken to Tommy Gilmour and Barry Hearn. Would be very happy to see a Joshua v Cornish for the vacant Commonwealth title if no arrangement can be confirmed with Browne’s representatives.”
‘Big Daddy’ Browne recently told WBN that he is still in the dark about a potential return to action on August 1, although as the Aussie is on the cusp of fighting for his first world title, the likelihood is that he won’t be holding the Commonwealth strap for much longer.
