Oscar De La Hoya: Victor Ortiz should retire and enjoy life

Ortiz, who turned 27 on Friday, was beaten by a crushing short right hook inflicted by Collazo in just the second round of their  midweek Barclays Center meeting and the Kansas-born fighter was spent.

It is a far cry from when ‘Vicious’ Victor was defeating the likes of Andre Berto and sharing the ring with Floyd Mayweather Jr. and it seems his outside of the ring interests may have taken over from his boxing.

The southpaw took time out when going down to a shock loss against Josesito Lopez in June 2012, a fight in which Ortiz broke his jaw, and 17 months away was just too much against a hungry Collazo in New York.

A stint on ‘Dancing with the Stars’ and an upcoming role in the blockbuster movie ‘Expendables 3’ have given Ortiz plenty of options for a career outside the sport and De La Hoya is convinced that would be the right decision despite his tender age.

“I really feel Victor Ortiz should call it a day and enjoy his young life,” said De La Hoya.
