David Haye and Tyson Fury coy on autumn clash

Both Brits are usually avid users of Twitter and the UK tabloids to drum up support and interest in their fights, but there is now a eerie silence from Haye and Fury as support gathers that the two will meet later this year.

Fury, 24, pulled out of potential IBF final eliminator against Kubrat Pulev this weekend, with a WBC chance at Vitali Klitschko now said to be the preferred choice as a battle with Haye would almost certainly be sanctioned by the WBC as just that.

32 year-old Haye and former Irish champion Fury are highly ranked with the World Boxing Council, who may allow the winner the right to face champion Vitali Klitschko or mandatory Bermane Stiverne in early 2014.

Haye v Fury, if agreed in the next week or so, could potentially generate between five and ten million pounds for all concerned, with the fighters well on their way to making between one and three million each.

Channel 5 currently hold the rights to show Tyson Fury’s fights in the UK, although figures generated by Eddie Hearn and Sky Box Office would dwarf their input, meaning the fight would almost certainly end up on pay-per-view.

A deal for the terrestrial network to broadcast the fight after a few days delay could be the only way for Channel 5 to screen the huge domestic showdown – that is gathering momentum as the biggest heavyweight fight of 2013.
