Jack Catterall above Josh Taylor, Roman Gonzalez rises pound for pound

Jack Catterall entered the pound for pound top twenty this week following his victory over Josh Taylor. Roman Gonzalez, who won last Saturday night, re-entered the top ten.

Catterall, despite some media in the United States being cautious about admitting the truth, absolutely dominated Taylor in the UK.

Winning at least eight rounds of the twelve and out-landing Taylor for eleven of twelve sessions and dropping him, the Chorley man got robbed of his dream.

But World Boxing News doesn’t shy away from calling it as it is, hence Catterall now being rated as the current undisputed super-lightweight champion he is in our eyes.

Taylor will not be rated as a champion on the website until he wins one inside the ropes properly again in the future.

Even though the sanctioning bodies recognize Taylor as the champion, WBN does not. He lost that fight.

Regarding Roman Gonzalez, Chocolatito put on a fantastic performance on Saturday to defeat former flyweight ruler JC Martinez.

He’s now back in the pound for pound top ten for the first time in years.

Gonzalez once ruled at the top spot in 2016 when being an undefeated specialist chasing Floyd Mayweather’s 50-0 record. However, three defeats in his next seven bouts put him on the fringes of the top twenty.

The Martinez win is a clear reminder that Nicaragua’s finest is a total legend many fans will remember as one the best of all time from the lower divisions.
