DAZN Fighter Profile: Katie Taylor (Unified lightweight champion)

One of boxing’s current superstars, Katie Taylor, continues to astound with every fight.

Just eleven bouts into her paid career, Taylor is ready to make her third defense of the unified lightweight titles on Saturday night.

Aged 32, Taylor has crammed so much into her amateur and professional careers, having struck gold at the 2012 Olympics in London.

A second attempt failed in Rio four years on, although Taylor put that disappointment firmly behind her when signing with renowned promoter Eddie Hearn in 2016.

Five contests in five months quickly established the Irishwoman as a contender for the world championship. A feat which was realized later in 2017 with victory over Anahi Sanchez.

Since then, Taylor added the IBF strap to her WBA belt against Victoria Bustos. Then making successful defenses against Kimberly Connor and Cindy Serrano in the months that followed.

This weekend, Taylor bids to keep her trajectory upwards by adding the undefeated Eva Wahlstrom to her resume.

Making a debut at the world-famous Madison Square Garden in New York is seen as the natural progression for Taylor to make before a massive run in 2019.

A move up in weight has to be in Taylor’s thinking for the New Year. Whilst fully becoming undisputed is never beyond the realms of comprehension for such a talented fighter.
