American-based Polish bruiser Adam Kownacki already has one over on WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder as he prepares to return against Iago Kiladze on January 20.

The undefeated 28 year-old knocked out compatriot Artur Szpilka in just four rounds in his previous bout, some five rounds quicker than the current world ruler.

With the potential to move to 17-0 on the horizon at Wilder’s regular venue The Barclays Center, Kownacki was asked the obvious question of whether a future fight with ‘The Bronze Bomber’ was in his thoughts.

“I think I showed that I’m ready to shine at the bigger stage. It took Deontay Wilder nine rounds to take Szpilka out of there. It took me four. So that was a big statement, and I’ll continue to improve on that statement on January 20,” said Kownacki.

“My goal is to be world champion. Whoever has the title, that’s who I want. If it’s Deontay, then it’s Deontay.”

He continued: “I told you that before it happened.  I’m a man on a mission.  That mission is becoming the first Polish, Polish-American heavyweight champion of the world.  No one will stop me.

“I’m blessed with the talent that God has given me with boxing. I’m trying to build on this, maximize my potential and give my family a better life.

“Boxing is a war zone.  We put our lives on the line when we fight.  So it’s me or him, and I’m just going to keep putting the pressure on guys and making them fold.”

On how he’s been greeted by the public since his impressive July stoppage of Szpilka, Kownacki added: “A lot of doubters turned to believers.

“I was in Poland a month ago. The love I got there was ridiculous.I really liked that.

“I have to keep working hard, keep training hard and my goal is be world champion.

“So I’m very focused on Iago Kiladze right now. I have to pass this next test on January 20 on my way to become world champion,” he stated.
