On the Mend: Stephen Smith posts before, during and after slideshow of severed ear
Super-featherweight contender Stephen Smith is back on the road to recovery after touching back down in the United Kingdom this week.
Smith, 32, was involved in a sickening fight with Francisco Vargas at the weekend, which resulted in the Liverpool man’s lobe almost becoming detached from his head.
Several blows had made the ear swell up during the fight, and as blood pushed the ailment to bursting point, Vargas collided with the injury using a headbutt to rip it wide open.
‘Swifty’ was left with his ear half dangling and flapping about in the Vegas air before referee Russell Mora called a halt to the contest upon noticing the damage.

Vargas was handed a points win and Smith went immediately off to be stitched up, a job the former British champion is since happy with.
“Before, during and after. Really happy with the job the amazing doctors and nurses at #UMChospital in Vegas done on my ear after my fight.
“Can’t thank them enough. Still sore but well on the road to recovery.
“Thankyou for all your many messages, been reading them all, means a lot,” said Smith.
