Former world champion boxer Ishe Smith is struggling to come to terms with the death of his ex-wife after a fatal shooting in Las Vegas last weekend.
Latoya Woolen, 39, mother of Smith’s three children aged 10, 11 and 15, was shot and executed for no apparent reason.
Smith, who is signed to Floyd Mayweather’s promotional outfit and previously reigned in the super-welterweight division, was still in shock when commenting this week.
“You don’t shoot a woman in the back of the head. Take her away from her three kids,” Smith told KTNV of the women he split from ten years ago.
“It’s just very unfortunate someone took her life before she could bounce back as a mother,” he added.
Woolen was found outside the Dollar Tree near Flamingo and Maryland on Sunday night and police are still yet to identify a suspect in the case.
It is believed from witness accounts that Woolen was waiting for a ride before being shot, whilst her personal possessions were not taken, leading police to believe she may have been targeted.
Her former husband, nicknamed ‘Sugar Shay’ and an ex-star of Sylvester Stallone’s ‘Contender’ series, has since posted several poignant tributes on social media.
