Manny Pacquiao v Amir Khan moves closer as negotiations begin

The 38 year-old boxing legend asked his followers to choose his next opponent and Khan received the majority of votes from a choice of four.

Kell Brook, Terence Crawford and Jeff Horn are set to miss out as talks have now begun between Pacquiao and his former stablemate and gym partner.

Both fighters worked together under Freddie Roach a few years back, but the general consensus, even with trainer Roach at the time, was that the two pound for pound stars would eventually go toe-to-toe in the ring.

The United Arab Emirates is leading the way as a venue for the contest following a huge offer made to Pacquiao to stage his next fight there.

Australian Horn had been the previous frontrunner for an April 23 bout, although Pacquiao showed no interest in the proposed Brisbane outing and Khan is now firmyl top of the wanted list.

A date in May is now the likely target for a massive world welterweight title clash, possibly in Abu Dhabi.
