Vitali Klitschko hopes ‘friend’ Donald Trump maintains US-Ukraine relations

Ukrainian Klitschko, who is currently the Mayor of Kyiv City, enjoyed a good bond with outgoing President Barack Obama in the past and wants to continue in that vein when Trump takes over in January.

“It is very important that the policy of the United States’ support with regard to Ukraine be not changed,” Klitschko told Kyiv TV Channel.

“I really hope the U.S. policy towards our country will be maintained. And the United States will always be a friend for us and continue to help us implement those important reforms without which Ukraine cannot become a truly European country.”

Despite some Stateside uproar surrounding Trump claiming the top job on the back of an election last week, Klitschko admitted he has a firm bond with the former reality star dating back to his boxing career.

“I was Wladimir when boxing and we saw Trump in the forefront of our fights, in particular in the Taj Mahal arena which he owns. We were also at his home and we can say he is our old friend,” he explained.

On the current situation regarding his appointment, Klitschko added: “Some people like him, some people do not. We can criticize Trump but the American people elected their president.”
