Tom Loeffler looking at new dates for Golovkin v Jacobs

Haggling over the purse bid split during negotiations has hampered the ability to get a fight made and Loeffler has now confirmed Golovkin will miss out on a third fight of the year for the first time since 2012.

“December 10 is off, we’re just trying to finalize the deal and then we will look for new dates,” Loeffler exclusively told World Boxing News on Tuesday night.

Fans had welcomed the clash once the WBA announced it as their mandatory on the back of Golovkin’s knock out of Kell Brook in September, although both sides still seem some way off agreeing a deal.

Dates in late January and February are now said to be on the table as Golovkin plans to secure his trio of bouts in the coming year.

‘GGG’ should then be out again in May before a massive middleweight title encounter with Mexican superstar Canelo Alvarez, which has already been slated by K2 and Golden Boy Promotions to take place in September 2017.

Canelo is currently out injured and looks set to be back action himself on Cinco de Mayo weekend.
