Ultimate Fighting Champion supremo Dana White says Floyd Mayweather fighting Conor McGregor in any boxing match wasn’t ever a realistic possibility.
White, speaking to TMZ Sports, reaffirmed McGregor’s contract with him before stating that his most recognised champion would have to be allowed to kick and elbow Mayweather if they ever did trade blows.
Pointing out Mayweather and McGregor compete ‘in two totally different sports’, White was sure the fight would never get off the ground as the latter prepares to appear on UFC 205 this November.
Rumours began earlier this year, instigated by Mayweather through a mock-up poster, and continued to gather pace as McGregor undertook summer sparring with a number of skilled boxers.
A former amateur boxer himself, McGregor has always been open to switching codes in order to nail down a massive fight with the ‘Money’ man, although judging by White’s answers, the pay-per-view offering will never make it to a square-shaped ring.
