WBN caught up with Usyk on Thursday, just before the Olympic gold medallist boarded a plane to the Ukraine following an interesting press conference in Poland for his upcoming contest in Gdansk.
Usyk, 29, is favoured by many to dethrone Glowacki, despite the WBO ruler having home comforts and being undefeated in 26 bouts, on the back of his stellar amateur credentials as a two-time world champion.
The southpaw has bludgeoned his way through nine opponents – all by knockout – since ditching the vest in 2013 and is completely confident of victory despite having total respect for the world title holder.
“I looked into his eyes. I did not think any differently of him but he better think of me when I come for his belt,” Usyk exclusively told World Boxing News.
“He is a strong opponent and certainly no pushover, so I have to be at my best when the first bell sounds in Poland.”
Asked what he has learned from his victories thus far, Usyk added: “I have learnt to win and to win within the distance, so this is not good for my opponents.
“This is just one of my steps to becoming the undisputed cruiserweight world champion. I will definitely win and then I’m coming for the other champions to unify the titles.”
Russian Denis Lebedev currently possesses two versions (WBA, IBF) of the 200 pound crown, whilst Briton Tony Bellew claimed the WBC strap with an impressive win over Ilunga Makabu last month and Marco Huck holds the IBO version.
Bellew has been complimentary of Usyk for some time now and recently told WBN that he expects Usyk to join him at the top of the division this year. ‘Bomber’ has been linked to a fight with former undisputed champion and heavyweight contender David Haye in 2017, potentially at a catchweight of 210 pounds, although Usyk stated his willingness to share the ring with either once he conquers the world and defeats Glowacki.
“I congratulate Bellew for his victory over Makabu and I only hope things work together for us to fight soon,” said Usyk. “Bellew may be making a mistake in fighting with Haye though as I have no doubt that he would lose.
“For me, I would also have no problem with fighting Haye, but there would be no difference for me in what weight I would face him,” he added.
