Dave Coldwell: Tom Doran has earned a big fight

Dave Coldwell couldn’t retain his composure on Saturday night as middleweight charge, Tom Doran, provided several unsettling moment for his manager during a two round slugfest that will live long in the memory.

The unbeaten North Wales star almost had his flawless ledger ripped from him by Luke Keeler as the Irish man decked Doran heavily in round one. Seconds later, Keeler found himself in a distressed position and he was unable to prevent further onslaughts as he was halted in the following stanza. Doran now moves onto bigger tests and Coldwell admits it was a tough watch.

“I’m still getting my breath back from the fight. It was one of the craziest fights I’ve ever seen if I’m being honest. I’m proud of Tom for biting down on his gumshield and fighting back the way he did because it was a heavy knockdown and a lot of fighters wouldn’t have been able to come back from such a setback. He’s shown several times he can rise from adversity but I’m hoping he’s learnt his lesson from Saturday and is switched on from the opening bell next time. He started very slow and it took such a shot to wake him up but once he got going he looked great and that’s the Tom Doran I’m hoping we see more of as he can be a destructive fighter when he’s fully switched on.”

Coldwell added, “Tom got the win and now we look forward towards bigger and better tests. There’s a lot of interesting fights out there for him at middleweight and I’m hoping that after Saturday’s performance that we’re able to land a big fight for him as I think he’s demonstrated the qualities to show he deserves one. He’s working hard in the gym, he’s learning all the time, he’s still undefeated and he’s got the ability to entertain fans. It’s several times now that he’s provided value for money and he’s done whilst winning too. He definitely deserves a big fight now.”
