Exclusive: Glazkov promoter Duva says Fury decision correct as IBF rules were applied

Duva has fully backed the IBF’s decision and says Glazkov deserves the opportunity after waiting for months to pass before finally getting his chance.

The IBF released a detailed timeline this week of events leading up to Fury losing his belt after just 11 days as champion, but Duva is happy that the rules were fully applied in this case.

“My thoughts are that the IBF’s press release makes it clear that the Fury people should not have been surprised. The IBF typically follows their rules to the letter,” Duva exclusively told World Boxing News.

“We are very happy that Glazkov will get the opportunity to fight for the IBF heavyweight title without having to give control of his career to another promoter. He, Main Events and my partner in Russia, Pushka Promotions, worked very hard to get him to the Number one position in the IBF.

“Of course, we all would have preferred a Fury fight. But I understand Fury’s position and he has to do what is best for Tyson. My job is to do what is best for Czar and I hope they get the chance to meet someday. But first, Glazkov must win the IBF title.”

Glazkov, 31, will now engage in negotiations with next in line Charles Martin after the American pulled out of a fight with Dominic Breazeale this weekend in order to take his shot at Fury’s told title belt.

“Martin’s promoter has asked for an immediate purse bid and Leon Margulies (his promoter) has told my lawyer that he has reached out to me.

“The fight will probably take place soon, as they have asked for an immediate purse bid, so I suppose the date will depend upon who wins,” added Duva.
