According to The Manila Times, who spoke with Donaire’s father and trainer Nonito Sr, ‘The Filipino Flash’ has agreed to fight Juarez in Puerto Rico on December 11 after talks with Quigg over a WBA championship clash broke down.

Donaire was close to an agreement with Quigg and his promoter Eddie Hearn over a potential pre-Christmas bout in Manchester, England until the 32 year-old began to look at other options when a deal suddenly stalled.

Juarez, 23, is now seen as a decent alternative following the Mexican’s victory over ex-world champion Juan Carlos Sanchez Jr over the summer and could see Donaire return to fight in Puerto Rico for the first time since 2010. Hernan ‘Tyson’ Marquez was dispatched in eight rounds as Donaire retained his interim WBA super flyweight title five years ago – which signalled the beginning of a meteoric rise over a three-year period.

Defeats to Guillermo Rigodeaux and Nicholas Walters has since seen Donaire drop down the P4P pecking order, although another world title chance remains a distinct possibility in 2016.
