Adonis Stevenson vs Andrzej Fonfara: Someone’s getting knocked out!

Rising to the top late in the day, the 36-year-old finds himself the number one light-heavyweight in the world.

That position follows demolition jobs on Chad Dawson, Tavoris Cloud, and Tony Bellew in the past twelve months.

Stevenson now has ten straight stoppages to his credit. He puts his beloved WBC belt on the line against Polish wonder Andrzej Fonfara.

His latest foe has lost just twice in his 27-fight career and is a former IBO title-holder.

Fonfara, 26, is expectedly a vast outsider to pull off the victory at the Bell Centre. But does have a recent standout record of his own.

The Pole has halted twelve of his last thirteen opponents on his way to a shot at the big-time.

Bookmakers have placed Fonfara as the 7/1 snow-white underdog to take down the champion. Stevenson is an unmanageable 1/12 favorite and fully-anticipated to be ending yet another title defense early.

On paper, Fonfara is jumping up several levels from his recent outings, as the likes of Gabriel Campillo and Glen Johnson have been well past their best for some time but are no benchmark with which any boxer could be entirely judged.

In all honesty, though, the challenger seemed to be way out of his depth and was intent on using intimidating tactics on Stevenson at the weigh-in, which have failed to evade the champion from his confident ‘Superman’ persona.

ADONIS STEVENSON

Stevenson has even taken to muttering Mike Tyson’s immortal words, ‘Someone is getting knocked out,’ during fight week, and I fully agree that the judges will not be needed tonight in Montreal.

This encounter is nailed on not to last the complete twelve rounds. A knockout in the mid-to-late rounds where the smart money is going.

Stevenson looks set to keep his status as the man to beat at 175lbs and heads towards a possible unification with WBA and IBF belt holder Bernard ‘The Alien’ Hopkins.

Fight update (2017): Stevenson beat Fonfara on points before knocking him out in two rounds of their rematch.
