Matchroom boss Eddie Hearn is hoping to put on a massive domestic welterweight bout between long-time rivals Kell Brook and Amir Khan after laying down a huge bid this week to stage the clash.

Hearn reacted in the fallout to Khan losing out on a fight with Floyd Mayweather in May by offering the former world light-welterweight champion a massive $5million (£3m) paycheck to soften the blow.

If initial reports were to be believed, Khan, 27, was only likely to pocket around $6million from a pay-per-view encounter with Mayweather, so accepting a fight with Brook would certainly make financial sense.

Khan has always been dismissive of agreeing to a fight with unbeaten Brook, though, as the ex-Olympian and his team continue to discount the Yorkshireman’s ring achievements since ‘The Special One’ is still yet to make the step up to the world title level.

Domestically the fight is certainly in high demand as there are plenty of UK fans who have been craving the contest after years of bitter words between the pair, something Hearn is now keen on capitalizing on.

Whether that is enough to convince Khan is a different story as the fledgling 147lber was on the verge of sealing the biggest fight out there in Mayweather and is said to keen on staying in the mix for a possible September fight with the pound for pound king by fighting a top Stateside name.

Options like Devon Alexander, Lamont Peterson, Adrien Broner, and Robert Guerrero have all been linked to Khan in the days since his Mayweather disappointment, with all those mentioned having won a world title in the past – something Brook is still yet to do.
