Witter, 39, was drafted in by Hatton to add some extra experience to his gym and ‘The Hitter’ was only too happy to help out as the two old rivals put aside any past animosity between them to help out the younger fighters.
Hatton and his new pal were constantly linked to a clash against each other in their hey day as world title holders, with Sheffield-based Witter sometimes reverting to goading tactics in a bid to seal a domestic super-fight.
All the past bad blood seems forgotten for the pair judging by today’s workout, although the 35 year-old ‘Hitman’ couldn’t resist a chuckle at Witter’s expense when speaking to WBN about the session.
“It was great fun having Junior in the gym,” Hatton told World Boxing News.
“It was perfect sparring for Sergey and a great experience for one of my novice pros in Sonny Upton to be sparring with a former world champ.
“We are a lot longer in the tooth nowadays me and Junior (when it comes to disagreements in the past) and it was a great day, but I still asked him to leave by the fire exit though!”
